Rookie Shepparton driver takes thrilling win at Sandown

Jacobson_ProfileShepparton youngster Garry Jacobson took a thrilling victory in the second round of the Victorian Formula Ford Championship last weekend at Melbourne's Sandown Raceway – his first in the highly competitive category.

Eighteen year old Jacobson, who drives for the Australian Sports Commission supported CAMS Rising Stars team, passed rival driver Cameron Waters on the last lap to win Race 3, which awards triple-points, to give him the race and round wins, as well as the championship lead.

"Making that pass was the highlight of the weekend - just the best feeling," beamed Jacobson afterwards. "I had to drive a consistent race, concentrating on doing perfect laps without making any mistakes. I got a great run onto the back straight on the final lap, and taking the lead on the outside of a 220km/h corner to win my first Formula Ford race is something I'll never forget."

Jacobson, who had finished fourth and third in the opening two races, paid tribute to his team for the result: "It's a very technical sport," he said, "and it takes a lot of hard work to be able to win races. Thanks to Minda Motorsport who do a fantastic job of preparing my car. I spent a lot of time with the data engineer during the weekend to make the car right for me."

Jacobson also races in the National Aussie Racing Car Series, and aims to one day compete in the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

Garry Jacobson is proudly supported by the Australian Motorsport Foundation and the Confederation of Australian Motorsport.
