Shepparton youngster Garry Jacobson took a thrilling victory in the second round of the Victorian Formula Ford Championship last weekend at Melbourne's Sandown Raceway – his first in the highly competitive category.

Eighteen year old Jacobson, who drives for the Australian Sports Commission supported CAMS Rising Stars team, passed rival driver Cameron Waters on the last lap to win Race 3, which awards triple-points, to give him the race and round wins, as well as the championship lead.

"Making that pass was the highlight of the weekend - just the best feeling," beamed Jacobson afterwards. "I had to drive a consistent race, concentrating on doing perfect laps without making any mistakes. I got a great run onto the back straight on the final lap, and taking the lead on the outside of a 220km/h corner to win my first Formula Ford race is something I'll never forget."

17 year old racer Garry Jacobson has been signed up to drive in the Fujitsu Team by owner Garry Rogers who was impressed with the young chargers ability and improvement during last season at the wheel of the CAMS Young Gun car.

During the 2009 season Jacobson showed a continual progression towards the front of the pack regularly beating many of the more favoured stars.

Garry Rogers has a keen eye for driver talent and is well known for giving young drivers a leg up in the sport. Jacobson has impressed thus far and this is a wonderful opportunity for him to build on that behind the wheel of a fresh car under Rogers experienced guidance.

Adam Gowans and Garry Jacobson have taken race wins today at Phillip Island in the last round of the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series.

Gowans came from grid three in race one and fought his way to the front and swapped the lead with Jacobson and Kyle Clews before taking the race win.

Brad Ward fought a good battle to snatch second place at the finish line while Clews scored a valuable third place.

Unfortunately Jacobson dropped back to ninth place on the last lap after a clash with David Lawrence which left him only finishing twelfth.

In the Masters Cup it was Mark Duckworth who tamed the fast circuit to win from Darrin Masini and Michael Hovey, who's QK Technologies has sponsored the round.

The Australian Motor Sport Foundation (AMSF) has today announced that Liam Sager and Garry Jacobson have been selected as rookies in representing the CAMS Rising Star Program in 2010.

At 14 years of age, Sager is the youngest ever driver to be selected in the CAMS Rising Star Program. Sager has an impressive karting resume, winning a number of national titles including the 2008 Junior National Light Final in Melbourne and countless podiums across the country.

"I feel overwhelmed and very honoured with my selection as a rookie in the CAMS Rising Star Program," a delighted Sager said.

"To be racing in the CAMS Rising Star colours next year is a dream come true and I will be looking to achieve some really good results in the Formula Ford. With the support and guidance from the AMSF, CAMS and Minda Motorsport I am really excited and looking forward to this next step in my motor racing career."
